Plain orange Clivia miniata appear in the stores, usually at modest prices. It was my intention not to get involved with those plants. In early 2025 a major orchid collection (3 greenhouses) in NJ was dispersed due to the owners failing health. When I went there, I discovered a large number of Clivia, mostly in pots laying on their side under the benches. As nobody else expressed any interest in those plants, I rescued as many as I could fit in my van.
There were four yellow flowered plants, two each Kruger Rand strain and Golden Dragon strain. The remainder were all orange, reportedly from Al Blanda breeding (plants used in the Frick Collection museum in NYC). Most were tipo, one has a somewhat green throat, and two have a near white throat (LZ07 also bloomed three times in the first year). Many of these plants were very large, so they produced 5-10 divisions each.
